UTE and Golf in Sri Lanka

UTE’s second Chairman the late Mr. Pin Fernando was and is still considered the greatest golfer Sri Lanka has ever produced. Adding to his countless Sri Lankan National Championships, he was also the first foreigner to win the Indian National Championship. His wife Pam is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest National Champion – also for golf. His eldest daughter Dilrukshi won the first Ceylon Junior Golf Championship Title in 1962. His second daughter Tirusha became Sri Lanka’s first and only professional golfer to play in the Ladies Professional Golf Tour. His son Priath also won many titles in Golf and as President of Sri Lanka Golf Union, initiated Junior golf development island wide, whilst also using UTE to sponsor and initiate a monthly world ranking championship for all amateur golfers in Sri Lanka. The names Pin Fernando–Golf–UTE became synonymous in Sri Lanka amongst the business community belonging to the fast-growing golfing fraternity.
